Raised in rural Kansas, I knew few limits. Being surrounded by the rolling seas of prairie one has nothing but growing space. Yet, at the same time, one is completely surrounded. Perfect for imagination and play; burning grounds for a girl’s creativity. My interest in coincidence, connections, history and mapping in all forms was seeded here, living with the infinity of grasses, where everything felt the same. It is truly strange how in some places we can know exactly where we are but where nothing else is. This strange state of certainty and confusion, at once, is entirely fascinating to me. To explore these ideas, I experiment with set, instant, photo processes like the Polaroid or investigate old ones such as the camera obscura. More recently, family photographs, and thrift store treasures have been introduced as a way for me to journey into history, and in many ways recreate it as my own.
